Product Review: Burts Bees Deep Conditioner

Bleh...no like.

My mom bought the Burt's Bees deep conditioner for me for Christmas. It smelled soooooo yummy! But did absolutely nothing for my hair. It practically acted like shampoo because it felt like no moisture was put in my hair... Sigh... Disappointed. :(

I know these last products have been disappointing but at least I'm figuring out what doesn't work!!!

Product Review: Aussie Shampoo & Conditioner

Oh, how I despise dry, fried, damaged hair. Aussie Moist shampoo was making it worse ladies.

I always wash my hair with shampoo AND conditioner! My hair needs the balance.. For some reason, there wasn't enough balance in the Aussie Moist sh.&co. :( It dried my hair even more!!! Made it VERY brittle and split ends were running rapid :(

Have you ever felt a little girl's dress up wig? My hair felt like that in the shower as I was putting shampoo in and then conditioner. I noticed it within 3 days. I was broken :( My hair was terrible.

BUT thank goodness, I still have some Garnier Fructic shampoo that I was able to use. I still used the Aussie conditioner and it did give me much needed moisture, but only when it was paired with another conditioner. I still wouldn't recommend using the Aussie conditioner though.

HOWEVER, I do not recommend using Aussie Moist sh.&co. if you need moisture in your hair.. I know how almost all of us straight haired Apostolic-Pentecostal ladies wear our hair... and trust me when I say this, we DEFINITELY need the moisture.

So Aussie Moist shampoo & conditior, you get a *thumbs down* :(

Cheat Sheet for Curls!!!

There's a quicker way to achieve gorgeous curls.

Today, for school, I decided to curl my hair because I wouldn't have much going on during my classes :) or throughout the day. It took me less than an hour (about 7:40 - 8:30) to do my hair! I used a combination of hot sticks and hot rollers. I pulled the bottom portion of my hair into a side ponytail & curled the hair in the ponytail instead of my WHOLE HEAD! Wayyy easier :)

How to:

(I was already taking the curlers out in these pictures, sorry)

Use a variation of hot sticks and hot rollers on the top and side sections of your hair. I would suggest using hot sticks for the hair the IS NOT going to show-for example: the hair in the middle of your head or place it underneath the rollers. I don't like how hot sticks curl my hair anymore but they do give great volume which is the reason why I put them where they are hidden lol.

Start with your hair down and DRY--splash a bit of hairspray onto it to make your hair hold better.

Place the curlers/rollers in the direction you want them to go. For example: I like my hair parted to the left so I place the curlers going to the left (I'll show a video as soon as I can) Then, put the rest of the curlers/hot sticks on the front and side sections of your hair.

DON'T put the curlers on your whole head! This is the cheat sheet version :) lol

After you get to the top of your head and right behind your ears full of curlers, place the remaining hair in a side ponytail. Take the hair from your ponytail and separate it to place the hair into curlers. Your ponytail will turn into a big bun of curlers :) lol

Take out the curlers about 20 minutes later (do some housework, homework, studying etc inbetween these times). Start taking the curled ponytail section first and move your way to the top!

You are going to keep the side ponytail full of curls and just place the curls from the top of your head onto the curls in the ponytail :)

Cheating has never felt so good.

Knotted Hair

As you can tell, I learned a lot from the girl doing these videos because I keep posting her vids! Lol Here is the Knotted Hair tutorial that someone asked for :) I learned from this video and it's a really cool look, perfect for casual (and in some cases, semi-dressy) occasions. LOVE IT!

Loopy Sidebun

Here's a video on how to do a Loopy Sidebun. This is a beautiful hairstyle for church! Pretty simple :) works on hair that isn't quite as long as hers too :) Try it!! I always love me a cute sidebun. <3

Apostolic hairstyle-Roll bun

A great video showing how to roll your hair :)

(I apologize for the lack of posts!)

My steps for rolling hair:
1. Put hair into a ponytail around the nape of your neck
2. (She did something different) I section off 5 pieces of hair from the ponytail.
Like a + with an extra piece in the middle
(Top, bottom, left side, right side, middle)
3. I begin rolling the top and secure with two bobby pins-1 on each side.
4. Repeat for the side and bottom rolls.
5. For the middle roll, it's going to be stacked on top in the middle :) for a little volume. You do the same thing like you did with the other rolls.

Wallah! :) You have created a beautiful, simple, and easy hairdo :) perfect for church when you don't have as much time as usual or are stuck in a rut!

Don't forget to finish with a spritz of hairspray and pin down those fly aways :)

Rock a Braid Out!!

I decided to try to rock a braid out :) I had my Mom french braid my hair!!!

(Mom and Dad)

I found out that when I was little, my Dad would be braid my hair... Interesting? Lol. Back to the braid out..

I had my Mother put two french braids in my hair:

(Dampen your hair a little bit with water and let it dry overnight)

1.Part you hair like normal before you braid.. (My part is on my left side, so when I parted my hair, it went with the right braid. Does that make sense? Lol..)

2.Then you'll part you hair down the middle (that way you will have two distinct french braids)

Like this: :)

At the ends of my hair, I put some leave-in conditioner! By Garnier Fructis:

Sleep in your braids overnight :) and in the morning, finger comb you braids out..

It should look something like this:

You know that middle part you had for the french braids?? It's not supposed to stay parted in the middle :) So when you're done finger combing.. Flip your head upside down and shake your hair!

Spray some Aussie Freeze hairspray for volume! And plump it up :) You'll love the finished product as much as I do..

I have church tonight, so this braid out is going to be in a major updo ;) Perfect!

Reduce Frizz

Hey all :)

I just found out something exciting.
I saw an article on yahoo about hair care the other day.

(I have been looking at these more often since this blog has started)

The one thing stylists say that can be the cause of frizz is your TOWEL. YES! I know. Lol When you get out of the shower, don't wrap your hair up in a towel anymore. Let it air dry for at least 15 minutes :) I tried it out today and I have hardly any FRIZZ!

I was one to ALWAYS put my hair in a towel and when I read that article, I couldn't help but try it out. It works ladies :)

Crème de la Crème

"Best of the Best" ... Literal translation, the cream of the cream. [French]

Some products I've used are alright /: and some are just a big NO NO for me.. My favorite products might not be your favorite products. The ones that work for me, may not work for you. Juuusssttt to let ya' know :)

I discovered Aussie Hairspray about... umm... 6 months ago (I'm guessing). It has saved me a lot of frustration when I curl my hair or need a hairdo to REALLY stand still! Aussie is NO JOKE :) When they say instant freeze, it freezes! I have tried TRESemme hairspray but for some odd reason, they started to do something different in the ingredients and it was never the same. It used to hold my hair soooo good.. And now it doesn't!!!! :/ Sooo... I present: Aussie Instant Freeze, A girl's best friend ;)

Aussie Hairspray can make these curls stay :) I would go out and buy a can to try out..

Next is shampoo and conditioner! I am always switching out between Garnier Fructis for Damaged Hair and TRESemme for damaged hair (and occasionally, my mom will buy other brands but these are the main ones.) I start to apply the conditioner from the nape of my neck and down. These conditioners work so well on my hair!! Especially when my hair needs a MAJJOOORRR cleaning from all the hairspray (my hair gets pretty dry and brittle if I curl it/use too much hairspray.)

Now, when it comes to bobby pins... You want a good quality or else they won't last. They will usually be thick, strong, and definitely won't bend easily. :) (Sallys Beauty Supply has some of the best bobby pins)

Are you trying to find some rreeaalllyyy good hot sticks/hot rollers for your curls??? Conair is definitely THEE BEST! There are two different curling styles.. Hot Sticks and Hot Rollers.. Right now, I'm hooked on the rollers :) and when you wrap your hair for these, you have to wrap downward (I'll show you soon.)

I also use a 1 inch-thick curling iron (Conair) every so often. The only thing is, my hair NEVER stays with JUST using a curling iron. I have to use my Dad's La Bella Styling Gel (#10) along with it. :/ It isn't very good to curl your hair when you have gel on it and heat is applied (over metal!) but that is why I don't do it very often!!!! It does give you perfect (almost fake) curls :) I do this for my curly buns. I'll have to take pictures of the hairstyle. Soon.

An awesome teasing brush is this one by Goody (and their hair ties are GOOD too lol)

This isn't my exact brush but that one will work too :)

Welcome! :)

Kendra Thaler (I Wear Black Apostolic Hair) asked me to start up this hair blog for Apostolic/Pentecostal women with straight hair.

Her blog is for women with "Black Apostolic Hair".. She has helped so many ladies with their hair struggles!! You can read all about it on her site. :)

The MAIN reason for this soon-to-be-awesome blog is to help ladies with their (almost or totally) bone-straight hair like mine! Hair tutorials (Quick fixes or some that may take a little longer), tips, and product reviews are to be expected.. Once I feel comfortable in front of the camera, I will start showing you all some neat-o ways to style your hair! ;)

This will be an adventure..
